Beijing official to tour Northern Metropolis technology sites, including Yuen Long microelectronics centre and Hetao hub
The central government’s top representative for Hong Kong affairs kicked off a two-day visit on Tuesday, inspecting major projects across the city with a focus on housing, technology, and Northern Metropolis initiatives.
Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, began his study tour with a briefing led by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu. Also in attendance were Chief Secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, and selected members of the establishment, including the city’s property tycoons.
During the morning, Xia greeted residents at a light public housing project on Yau Pok Road in Yuen Long, accompanied by Lee and Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho Wing-yin.
This project is part of a scheme to provide 30,000 government-built temporary flats for families who have been waiting at least three years for public rental housing.
Ho noted that she had briefed Xia on the scheme’s progress and explained its construction method: Modular Integrated Construction.
This technique involves free-standing integrated modules manufactured in mainland Chinese factories, which undergo quality inspections before being installed on site.
